"Salute 53 - my take" Topic

The dust has settled now so I thought I'd share my personal take on Salute, how I saw it and how I think it reflects the hobby in general.

Very interesting.

Thank you. I missed my one and only chance at Salute nearly 40 years ago. Well, such is life. But yes, nothing very surprising there. Large firms are increasingly dominant, and small firms can have an Internet presence without paying for tables. Horse & musket games are and will remain spectacular, but with out schools or films to explain the tactics to young people, we're going to be a steadily smaller fraction of miniature wargaming.

I expect this will eventually change. But I also don't expect to see it.

I agree with you Robert, I doubt things will change anytime soon, although perhaps it'll be small 3D designers/sellers replacing the "traditional" one man metal companies?

Oh, might very well be, dr beard. I'd be buying eD printed 28mm 1815 Dutch-Belgians off Etsy right now if I could find them, and certainly more obscure items are available.

I don't expect the one-man band, evening and weekends suppliers to go away. But in the Internet era, traipsing off to London with stock and renting a table probably isn't a good use of limited time and money.

Actually, looking at the past three years or so, I've put a lot more of my casting and terrain money into small family or one-man operations than I've spent with the big guys.
