A nice looking table, Martin. Though to really resemble the Kokoda you'd have needed to tilt the table at least 30°. Keeping everything in place on the table may have been difficult, though. If you have any interest in the PNG campaigns I suggest A Bastard of a Place: The Australians in Papua, by Peter Brune, and To the Bitter End: the Japanese Defeat at Buna and Gona, 1942-43 and Blood and Iron – The Battle for Kokoda 1942, both by Lex McAulay. Neither Brune nor McAulay are as "Rah! Rah!" as Peter Fitzsimons, and give a better view of the fighting. MCAulay was an infantryman who did two tours of VN (with 1RAR in '65 and later as a HQ wallah), so knows what fighting in close country is all about. Or have you already read them? |

Martin, I would recommend "Retreat From Kokoda" – The Australian Campaign in New Guinea 1942. by Raymond Paull Published Heinemann Richmond, Victoria 1958. And the go to "Official History of the 2nd AIF" volumes. these were available for reading on the Australian War Memorial web site. Well Done Martin playing just before ANZAC Day, Well Done! |

"We had a lovely day ." Excellent, Martin. PBI were the rules used? I'm not familiar with them, and there's so many rules sets for WWII. There seems to be a set of WWII rules for every month of the war. |
