I've always liked Martha and the Vandellas.

BUT! There were also contemporary Philadelphia sounds, and even British.

One rule. Provide a link!

If I could time travel one of the gigs I would most like to go to is anything on the Stax-Volt revue UK tour.

But back to Motown – I think you called it with Martha and the Vandellas.

MR and the Vs certainly hit it out of the park with "No Where To Run To".

But my vote for Best goes to the Temptations and their evolution to Psychedelic Soul with "Cloud Nine". This then led to so many great 1970s movie soundtracks — that was a gift that kept giving!

One of dozens and dozens of playlists.
Don't forget Motown records also had a huge number of country and western acts as well. Back then they were just called top 40.

Growing up as a suburb of Detroit at the time i can tell you that Clark Street made its' mark on the world.

The song goal of a three minute duration for a song as well as a very established musical talent.

Are we restricting nominees strictly to singers or groups actually signed with the Motown label, or are you going by "Motown sound" (whatever that was/is)?

Yet, they have 3 beautiful Black girls. I sure thought they were Motown originally.

The Flirtations, ditto. A trio of beautiful Black women. They're British. Who knew?

One of the greatest songs ever recorded. I saw just the Pips once. I think it was a summer show, with Richard Pryor.
