Okay. Why?
Because Trump doesn't like the government? I guess Canada qualifies under that criterion.
Why not draw up plans to invade RUSSIA? CHINA? Why just deal with minor irritants? Go for the Big Kahunas!

There's always Hungary too. Shockingly the voters ignored Vance and ousted Órban!

Ukraine? Does our good friend Putin need help?

France and Italy have been uttering discouraging words. Where the deer and the envelops play.

Unfortunately, people believe everything on the internet and go down the rabbit hole that makes them more delusional.

I think it will collapse on its own at some point, although the regime has somehow survived every crisis over the last 70+ years. Most sections of the country don't have power 24/7, the infrastructure is crumbling, and a shortage of medicinal supplies are common occurrences. Things are so bad that the country now imports sugar! The local production has had serious issues for a few years now, where they used to be one of the main exporters for decades.

I'm not sure what would happen if the regime was overthrown or decided to head to Switzerland. The people are so used to having everything (what little there is) given to them, that remaking the entire society would be a challenge.

Surely, this is nonsense.
The US fleet, sailing around the world, randomly attacking countries makes them sound like the equivalent of C17th pirates.

"It's Thursday….who do we attack today?" No. I don't believe the possibility.

When the regime falls a million Cubans from Miami will rebuild it. Maybe we will add a ew state.

Seriously? Yanqui imperialism.
Let's annex Canada and Greenland while we're at it.
Their government displeases us.

The idea that regime change is some sort of plug-and-play American policy option has been tested rather thoroughly over the last few years and the results aren't exactly encouraging.

Iraq War was supposed to produce a stable, pro-Western democracy. It didn't.
War in Afghanistan ran for twenty years and collapsed in weeks once external support was removed.
Libyan Civil War replaced one regime with ongoing fragmentation.

None of these were short of confidence, planning or resources. What they were short of was a realistic appreciation of what happens after the regime falls.

So the notion that "a million Cubans from Miami" will simply return and rebuild the country—neatly, quickly, and in alignment with outside expectations—belongs in the same category. You're not rebooting a system; you're dismantling a state and hoping something coherent emerges from the debris. And it probably won't.

Societies aren't empty containers waiting to be refilled. They have institutions (however weak), internal divisions, expectations and habits built over generations. Uprooting that and assuming a smooth transition because of expatriate enthusiasm is wishful thinking. Something Gronk suggested, I'd guess.

If anything, the consistent lesson is that regime change is the easy part. What follows is the problem and it's the part no one ever seems to plan for with the same enthusiasm.

We do not want most of Canada, just a couple of western provinces.

Greenland, sure.

Ochoin, McA was pretty successful in Japan.

Personal logo John the OFM Supporting Member of TMP15 Apr 2026 4:33 p.m. PST

Sure, doc.
America is God's gift to the world, and everyone is clamoring to be the next state.

The western Canadian provinces are not clamoring to be part of USA. It's their national government that pisses them off.
It's like imagining that Massachusetts or California are clamoring to become part of Canada.

Personal logo ochoin Supporting Member of TMP15 Apr 2026 4:37 p.m. PST

McA is Douglas McArthur? Pretty unsuccessful in Korea, I believe.

And "regime change' in Japan followed nearly 4 years of intense fighting followed by two nuclear strikes. And still left Hirohito in charge. Are you advocating another "forever war" for the US in Cuba?

A very poor analogy for a delusional idea.

doc mcb15 Apr 2026 4:59 p.m. PST

McA laid the basis for modern Japan. You perhaps should study what he did there between 1945 and 1950. His Korean campaign is quite irrelevant.

SBminisguy15 Apr 2026 5:00 p.m. PST

Cubalibre! But what I'm hearing here is that the nearly 70 year old tyrannical regime of Cuba should NOT fall and the Cuban people should NOT be free because you all hate Trump??

Personal logo ochoin Supporting Member of TMP15 Apr 2026 5:06 p.m. PST

McArthur certainly had an impact. However, some of his reforms were later scaled back by Japanese conservatives (the "Reverse Course" …do some research & find out about this).

And he still left Hirohito & various war criminals in power.

" His Korean campaign is quite irrelevant." Yes, anything antithetical to your "arguments" are often labelled "irrelevant".

SB leave them their playground. Sometimes one has to allow the children to play at McDonalds as well as eat. 😉

After all, these are the same people who believed the media and politicians when they were told…

The boarder was secure.
That the President was not cognitively declined.
That Biden HAD TO abandon Afghanistan.
Georgia's 2021 election law shortened voting hours.
Believed Biden when he stated that federal contracts awarded directly to foreign companies rose by 30% under the previous administration.
Biden had no knowledge of his "family's business dealings".
Covid did NOT leak from a Chinese lab
The "jab" would prevent you from catching or spreading Covid and must be mandated.
Masks worked and all must be forced to wear them, or lose their positions! Even at wargames.
Children had to be isolated and in many cases jabbed as well.

The list is extensive, but yet, they still believe. 😉

It's truly sad how far reading comprehension has fallen. 😢
If the Regime is due to fall, let the Cuban people do it.
Why does USA have to invade?

SBminisguy15 Apr 2026 7:12 p.m. PST

It was either that or 20 million dead Japanese…seems like you prefer a high body count to an imperfect surrender? And all war criminals of note we could catch were tried and executed.

If the Regime is due to fall, let the Cuban people do it.
Why does USA have to invade?

I'm sorry, did I miss a D-Day somewhere that you know about that I haven't heard? So far its been pressure and talks to get the regime to step down. And with unarmed populace, the chance of success depends on the brutality of the regime. China butchered at least 10,000 to stop their pro-Democracy movement's main protest at Tianenman Square. Iran slaughtered 30,000 recently. How far will the Cuban regime go?

docmcb – you may try to change the topic when you are evidently without recourse to any legitimate arguments. But we ARE talking about the moral bankruptcy & general futility of regime change. And the McArthur in Korea is highly pertinent.

Maybe I should give you the benefit of the doubt, as academic debate is not for everyone?

However, after the success at Inchon in September 1950, Douglas MacArthur strongly backed pushing beyond the 38th Parallel. The aim wasn't just to repel the invasion. It was to destroy the North Korean regime under Kim Il-sung and unify Korea under the South.

That was effectively a regime-change objective and Washington approved it (with some caution about Chinese intervention). UN forces advanced deep into the North with that goal.

MacArthur's public and private push to widen the war—and implicitly pursue regime change in China—led to his dismissal in April 1951 but it was never approved policy and was a key reason he was removed.

In other words, Korea is an early example of exactly the tension we're (me, at least) are talking about: the gap between military victory/regime change thinking and the political reality of what risks that unleashes.

I would hate to be thought as being unfair, so I should disclose I wrote a paper on Korea, though some years ago.

"DO YOU WANT THE UNITED STATES TO INVADE CUBA?
If so, please explain why."

John, evidently because, "They hate us and they all want to come live here."

Obviously, there's an inherent contradiction in the above sentence. It also appears to be an example of "othering," but I'm this is coincidental.
