I am strongly considering a change of period and scale to Franco-Prussian Wargaming in 15mm. Can anyone with experience in FPW 15mm gaming recommend a set of rules? Here in the UK I have found that Minifigs and Essex both have good selections for FPW, have I missed anyone?

A variant of Regimental Fire and Fury is on their website. I just picked up a copy of Chassepot and Needlegun; still digesting that.

Rank and file minis also a good choice in 15mm

A fan of They Died for Glory. Free version from the Courier magazine was ideal and still what I use. Though the later published version has scenarios and more in depth rules.

There is a variant of the free rules Valor and Fortitude for the FPW on their website. We have used that multiple times and enjoy it.

Reiver and Lancashire both have 15mm FPW – the new ACW/FPW supplement for Muskets and Tomahawks might work. Sharp Practice could also fit. There are a lot of FPW battles adapted to the Bloody Big Battles system

gbowen, thanks for mentioning Bloody Big Battles.

BBB was actually originally designed for FPW. The rulebook includes a 9-scenario episodic campaign of the biggest battles of the war. About 8 or 9 more scenarios are freely available from the BBB io group files. For collected reviews of BBB, see here:

Eleve, I see you're in Yorkshire. Any chance I can tempt you along to our BBB Bash Day convention in Sheffield on Saturday 27 June?

It'd be a great chance for you to get a taste of the game. (I'll probably be running Coulmiers.)

And/or, you could meet some of us and roll some dice the next day at Joy of Six, also in Sheffield, Sunday 28 June:

Anyway, I applaud your idea of getting into FPW. It's an underrated period – some people are put off because they think it's too one-sided, when in fact it was far from a walkover for the Germans and there is lots of interesting action to get on the tabletop. Best of luck with finding a ruleset that suits your taste.
