Did this regiment wear dark blue trousers (with a red stripe) or light gray blue serge trousers in 1885?

Which battalion? The 2nd Bn, in Manchester, the former. The 1st Bn, in Egypt/Sudan, the latter – if you mean by "light gray blue serge trousers" the serge foreign service clothing specially ordered by Wolseley for his Egypt expeditionary force in 1882 but which only arrived in time to be issued to troops operating in East Sudan or on the Nile 1884-85. This grey clothing, generally very unpopular, appears to have been supplemented with red serge frocks for the attack at Kirbekan in Feb 1885.
