His Majesty's 15th Regiment of Foot embarked for North America from Ireland in early 1776, landing at Cape Fear in May of that year as part of the failed expedition to capture Charleston, later proceeding to Staten Island where it would participate in the more successful New York Campaign.

The Regiment would continue it service in America until the latter half of 1778, seeing action at the battles of Brandywine, Germantown and Monmouth, before departing to the Caribbean where it participated in the capture of St Lucia that same year.
