A US F-15E fighter has been shot down over Iran, prompting a frantic US search and rescue effort for its two-strong crew, in the first such incident since the start of the war… The Guardian: link |

"The Hormuz Letter @HormuzLetter BREAKING: A US F-15E Strike Eagle has reportedly been shot down over Iran. Both pilots ejected and were reportedly extracted safely from Iranian territory. Iran initially claimed it was an F-35, though debris images confirm it's an F-15E. CENTCOM has not commented. If confirmed by Iranian fire, this would be the first US fighter jet shot down by the enemy in this war. Three F-15Es were previously lost to friendly fire over Kuwait on day two" |

There's video of Blackhawks and a Hercules searching in that area and too many sources confirming it now. I think it's pretty amazing that US and Israeli forces have struck close to 20,000 targets and have only lost one aircraft. I'm sure this one loss will be portrayed as Iran is counterattacking and winning the war. |

OVI +1 Yes the media is reporting that. And it appears accurate. As we have seen in the past, Iran has a propaganda system likened to what was saw with Hamas in Gaza. Or even Iraq's Baghdad Bob. Or even However, I am glad to see the pilots have ejected safely. And I think not much more is being said. As this is an ongoing operation. As the US has well trained and experienced CSARs assets. Tempered in the jungles of SE Asia and even other conflicts, e.g. the Gulf Wars, Somalia, Bosnia-Kosovo, the GWoT, A'stan, etc.,etc. With many hard lessons learned. So I think we all know a CSAR element like we saw in other conflicts. Will or is enroute to retrieve this downed aircrew. And again, even with Iran's leadership/C3 and some forces are fractured. Like a cornered wounded beast, it still can cause damage. E.g. again WWII Berlin, Manila, etc. And I won't be surprised, rather actually disappointed, if more IRGC, Basji etc. will be sent to paradise. As they try to interfere with this extraction. Again, the US is very well trained and experienced with the CSAR mission. This type of operation's package generally consists of helicopters or in this case Ospreys that can land and take off vertically similar to helicopters. Protected by strike aircraft to suppress the enemy from trying to stop the extraction. Plus again with all the sorties flown and aircraft deployed in this campaign. Losses have been very, very low. |

Maybe some AH-64s and AC-130s may be on the mission as well. And yes as we have said before with all the aircraft involved … the losses are amazingly low. But it goes without saying many in the media, Congress, etc. will say the US is losing the war with the shoot down of this one aircraft. That is has become expected … most unfortunately … Not unexpectedly Iran's islamists put out a bounty on this aircrew … |

More: "An A-10 Warthog reportedly went down contemporaneously with the crash of the F-15, according to the New York Times. Officials have not stated the cause of the crash or the country where it occurred, but it reportedly occurred near the Strait of Hormuz. The pilot was safely rescued. Additionally, Black Hawk helicopter was hit by Iran. Preliminary reports suggest that the Blackhawk was hit during search and rescue operations but landed safely Per Newsmax's Carla Babb, "I've now confirmed the Blackhawk WAS hit by Iran. The crew is accounted for and is safe, a US official tells me." " |

"Reports that a second U.S. Air Force combat plane was shot down Friday in the Persian Gulf region are not accurate. An A-10 Warthog attack caught "enemy fire" while a rescue operation for the U.S. crew member took place, a well-placed source told Fox News. The New York Times reported the aircraft crashed in the Persian Gulf and that its lone pilot was rescued. An Air Force F-15E was shot down over Iran Friday and one pilot was rescued. A search for a second crew member was underway." Supposedly 2 helicopters have taken fire while doing search and rescue. Still only 1 pilot missing. Initially they said the A10 was shot down. |

OVI +1 McK +1 Yes, I heard that on news. US CSARs assets are continuing to search for the downed F-15E's crewmen. These units are some of the best in the business … in the world. Reports are some having some had been taking enemy fire. With no losses. And Last night the US took out one of the largest bridges in Iran. Interfering with their ability to move assets on the battlefield. Also a US female reporter was kidnapped the other day by one of Iraq's Shia militias in Iraq. She was told by the State Dept. not to go. And we know how islamists treat females and Americans. The search for her continues. She'll be lucky they only raped … They are savages. I'm sure some US Spec. Ops forces etc. are already plan and preparing. |

I really hope something positive comes out of the misery. Seems to me the whole thing has not really been thought through so well. It's amazing the allied losses are so low. That's good. But this Iranian adventure is far from all good. Spare a thought for the Iranian non combatants. They're not rising up. They're just taking losses. Who will they support I wonder. |

Evidently, 600 American soldiers have been killed: YouTube link Yes, risible. More seriously, I feel for the families of those Americans killed so far & for the Iranian innocents (not least the 145 school girls) killed in this stupid, stupid war. |
