I am in the process of putting together a 28mm Battle of Kings Mountain wargame. I am using a homebrew set of rules (Bob Moon's FIW rules, modified). If anyone has ever gamed this battle before, I would appreciate any suggestions for balancing out the sides, or scenario sheets you might have. Thank you. |

Balance out the sides? Why? It WAS unbalanced in favor of the Patriots. |

Granted. I guess I should have stated my goal better. I was thinking more of balanced victory conditions (even if one side is shooting for an honorable minor defeat). I am trying to work in a couple of historical "what ifs". 1. We know Maj. Ferguson sent out about 200 men in foraging parties hours before the battle. And some eyewitness accounts indicate some of these men returned in the last few minutes of the battle and took part in some insignificant fighting. So I am providing a potential for some or all of these troops to return on a random turn and join in the fight. 2. Ferguson made at least 2 requests to Cornwallis for reinforcements (which he ignored, of course). So I am providing a potential that Cornwallis sends a company or two of regulars, to bolster Ferguson's regiment. Apart from that, I'm trying to keep things in a strict historical context. |

The only thing I can think of is, if Ferguson holds up to a certain time in the game, he wins. |

I've never liked the concept of "If you survive until the 7th turn, you win." Seriously? Justify that. Dead is dead. Not victory. Alamo and Camerone games are cute. 🙄 Period. "If that is the kind of thing you like, you will like that kind of thing." Non ego. |

If you want to "win" a Kings Mountain game, vary the arrival of the Tory side. You're stuck with the quality of your troops. Maybe try to escape??? 🤷🙄 Your neighbors know who you are. I've run a few Wyoming Massacre games. Hell, I live 3 miles from the site. 1 mile as the crow flies. Why? I had the figures, and, yeah. Local. Queen Esther's rock is right across the 8th Street Bridge. Predictable slaughter of the Patriots. The last game I ran, I said "Your political career post war depends on the perception of how YOUR personal figure behaved in the battle." Hmmm… 😄👍🥃 My favorite behavior was from my friend who wanted a town named after him. 👍👍🥃 Kings Mountain is militia vs militia. Run with it! |

I might add that the Pattiots didn't shrink from the Cayuga and Oneida, nor from the scum sucking Tories. THEY CHARGED THEM! To the applause of all. 👍 |

Don't minimize the fact that the Loyalists were lit up on the skyline, while the over-the-mountain men were shaded below. |
