I'm doing some Scot spearmen/billmen for 2nd Barons War. At this point, they would not have had Red crosses as I understand that was some time later.

However, if I am going to differentiate the Scot in some manner, any suggestions? Maybe go ahead and put red crosses on them? I understand that at Evesham, Henry/Edward started having some units wear red crosses, similar to Montfort having units wear white crosses at Lewes.

Thoughts?

Would they be St. Andrew's crosses? Or did that come later.

I think St Andrews cross came in late 1200s
