Trying to verify is these rules actually exist—if so, if anyone has a copy? Trying to hunt down three sets of rules mentioned on this sire: link 1. Medieval and Ancient Wargame Rules by Ed Smith, said to have been in the BMSS, as well as used at the National Wargame Convention of 1967 the rules were advertised for general sale in Slingshot 2. Cass/Connett Ancient Rules c.1965 3. London Wargames Section, Ancient & Medieval (1968) — rules dropped by 1974 presumably because of popularity of WRG.. Thanks all! |

Ed Smith is (was) an old friend of mine. I'd be surprised if he is still with us. I'd be even more surprised if his rules popped up anywhere as they would have been overtaken by so many 'newer' rulesets. Jim |

I was in London Wargames section In the late 60s early 70s and still have some of the rules we used then. I still use ED Smith's Trireme and Samurai rules. I will look through and see if anything of your interest has survived. x42 |

@JimDuncanUK, The Ancients rules where, by WRG's rules. @Martin goddard Don't know what the cover looked like, but will take this of confirmation it exists. Thanks for that, also thanks for the reminder, I need to rejoin the SoA—though I'm a remote member, not in the UK. @x42brown, Oh wow! That is wonderful. I've only known London Wargames Section as a rules publisher or group that published together, had not realized it was a club too. Was this London wide or a particular area? Have been playing the Avalon Hill version of Trireme, but have the full booklet and looking forward to using them. |

Played Ed Smith's Medieval rules as an older teenager. Our club in Hornchurch (in Harry's cafe) played a few LWS rules (ACW comes to mind but there may have been others) and I hosted some naval battles with their Napoleonic & Ironclad rules. That would be about 1966-1970. Still have a copy (very battered) of the medieval rules and the ancient naval ones too. |
