"Republique 5 by Jim Burbeck" Topic

I have found what looks like a good set of rules on the internet, Republique 5, but am having some issues with the rules. Does anyone know if Artillery has a Grade, for the purposes of rallying from Morale Hits. While infantry and cavalry have a grade, such as Average or veteran, there are none for Artillery. Artillery is only Heavy or Medium. I know Artillery can suffer moral Hits and as a result becomes unformed or shaken, but i can't work out how to rally them. Is all artillery considered as Average, or does Artillery never rally from moral Hits? If there is anyone out there who could answer this i would appreciate it.

All must have morale class, the rules say "Troop Grades – Every unit on the board will have a Troop Grade which reflects its level of training and experience."

Thanks, i did see that rule but could not final any values for artillery which threw me. The link does say, Most French troops will be average quality, with some rated as green, notably the provisional formations such as divisions Puthod, Tharreau and Frere. Massena's and Bernadotte's corps should also probably fight as green. However no where does it specifically give an artillery battery a quality. So i am assuming the quality of the artillery will be similar to the other troops in the division. regardless, if all units have a grade i can assign my own grades.

My 1997 version of Republique states that French line artillery is veteran and guard artillery is elite grade morale. I am sure things have moved on since then ;-)

I am working off the internet version, a 2022 and 2025 version, which looks like being less clear on this specific topic. I did get a message from the designer and he did state the "artillery morale references are rather buried in the troop list intro paragraphs for each nation", so morale was not listed for the specific artillery in the lists.

Yeah, for a long time the suggested artillery morale grades were posted within the troop list outline that provided suggestions for command system, maneuver doctrine, artillery ratios, etc. A dedicated artillery section has been added to the troop lists to make that more obvious. The troop lists themselves remain as averages for very general reference, as real life troop grades varied quite a lot over time or location and many players have their own preferences on those matters.

The current beta version (Republique 5) is very far along on development and I'm hoping to move it over to the main Games page (off of the beta rules page) before the end of the year. It will remain free of course. Thanks to the various players and groups around the world who have helped out with hosting games, playtesting and recommendations.
