Pretty well borrowed the title from a YouTube vid.

There's been an alleged leak saying that the mortal realms are about to be magically reformed into a world.

Excitement builds.

If true, could this mean that AOS will, turn back into WFB?

Possibly.

I suspect TOW has done very well so far.

Better than AOS?

I'd have to say AOS is for kids, TOW is for adults.

One is based on a computer game look, the other is based in nostalgia and history. Obviously you could flip that, but you know what I mean.

I also heard there may be a 2 player starter box for TOW to come out??

This would place that well for the uninitiated, compared to the single army starters for tomb kings and britonia. If true, a decent store release may follow??

A problem AOS would be definitely having is parents going from buying kids AOS, as it's GW and has figures like they used to play, to buying kids TOW, as it is the game they actually used to play.

One outcome may be simplifying the ranges.

The old world and the new world (I think there was some name for it, next world? Or something).

They may be looking to simply have Warhammer as several different ages, but all based in the same world.

AOS of today could just become bundled with the end times in fluff. Dividing one time and the next.

And being a single world again probably means larger battlefields, thus larger units all bunched together…

So it may become a full circle merger back to WFB with whatever AOS becomes just being the "modern" time. Then, likely, a later full merger into one game.

Another problem AOS has is all the name rights. They are paying for those, I suspect. So TOW is not costing them any money for orc or elf. Let alone legal costs to enforce them.

This is what has me believing TOW was to be a replacement for LOTR, it's cheaper with no licence fee. What's more, GW can actually make money on TOW by licencing it themselves. Oh, and the fact it has all, and only, the LOTR armies.

Going by that, both LOTR and AOS actually cost GW to have around, where as TOW cost them nothing, especially with figure design and so much of the moulding, and there are still at least 7 armies that they can simply rerelease figures for. Free money.

Oh, ok,

Demons, Skaven, Ogres, Lizardmen, Chaos Dwarfs, Dark Elves, Vampire Counts. Not to mention a lot of alternative figures and sub factions. (Would love to see some older plastics rereleased as well, get me some psycostyrene)

Also remember, with all the youtubers and articles about older games and figures, there is a definite appetite for people, including younger people, to get their hands on some.

So it may be interesting times ahead, no matter the outcome.

Checking the UK trademark registry, GW seems to have registered a total of 210 registered trademarks from 1980's onwards, though many of these have been dropped (not renewed) over the years. Checking the list, I could spot the following AoS related ones: Sylvaneth, Stormcast Eternals, Seraphon, Warhammer Age of Sigmar (both as word and as logo graphic). That's a grand total of five registered trademarks, and two of them are for the name of the game itself.

Currently, trademark registration in UK costs £170.00 GBP or £200.00 GBP for ten year duration, and renewal after that £200.00 GBP every ten years. So on average £20.00 GBP per year per registered trademark.

Of course, if they want to register those trademarks also in some Johnny Foreign countries, there is going to be additional cost.

Here is a UK trademark search link for those interested:

gov.uk/search-for-trademark

Please notice that "Warhammer: the Old World" is also a registered trademark.
