Regarding the oil ports of Primorsk and Ust-Luga, which are close to St. Petersburg, IIRC those have been attacked by Ukrainian drones a number of times in the past year, so the prospect of further attacks should not have taken the Russian leadership by surprise.

There is some evidence that they had deployed anti-drone nets, but the anti-air defenses seem to have been sparse at best.

Also, this attack was much larger scale than previously.

Temporarily, I believe.

Russia was going to get higher prices anyway, but this brings oil prices down globally – which I appreciate. Quite a shock when I filled the gas tank today!

I have seen some pictures of the Primorsk oil port, and it is not a small place – lots of big huge oil storage tanks. Trying to protect those with anti-drone nets sounds challenging.
