Why do wargamers need painters tape, and is the dollar-store variety good enough?

You were asked – TMP link

On a scale of 0 to 10, where zero means nothing and ten means maximum, how much does it bother you to think of someone else playing with your armies after your death?

Would you be happy to see your soldiers still on the battlefield after you're gone?

Or would you rather have your armies retired when you're gone?

Average response: 0.42

Depends on your ego.

Greylegion26 Mar 2026 7:39 a.m. PST

Zero: I hope someone gets good use of them. More so, than I've been able to do with them.

Zero, like Greylegion, I'd like them to be played with, rather than stored away. Even worse would be for them to be thrown away – they deserve better than that!

I would love to have someone use the armies I have and the best would be for my wife to get money selling them. The worst feeling is that all that time and effort just goes in a landfill.

Best outcome: played with and enjoyed by my grandchildren – but I don't have any yet.
Next best: taken and played with by one or more of my wargame friends.
Third choice: my wife sells them and someone enjoys them.
Fourth choice: she gives them away to someone who enjoys them.
Fifth choice: she donates them to the charity for which I volunteer, with strict instructions to keep them until someone buys them. Should they be thrown away, my spectre will haunt the shop.

I might be offended if I knew they were going to be repainted, but used as is….. would make me happy.

They are toys, who cares what happents to them? If somebody can use them rathere than being sent to landfill is just good green policy, but that is it.
