Pondering the question brought up in this post TMP link reminded me of an offhand comment I once made to a friend. He asked what I had painted recently and I replied " a few units of AWI infantry" he congratulated me and my comment was "thanks but now that they're painted they take up more space and I'm running out of storage." A box of unpainted Perry's is about 70 cubic cms, painted they are about 108 ccs. ( based 6 figs on a 6cm x 4cm base) a stand with flags would be more. So do you? 1 Not paint figures because there's no where to put them. 2 Sell off painted things to make room for new figures 3 Not buy anything until you have more space. 4 Sell off unpainted things to make room for new unpainted things. 5 get rid of something else to create more room for your wargaming hobby. |

As I suffer from the pack rat gene I find that if I start running out of room for figures that means I need to reorganize a bit to make room and work on other parts of the hobby or work on figures that are painted to a higher standard and so take more time before completion. However, someday I suppose I'll run out of room but with a little bit of luck, at that point I'll probably be unable physically to paint and if I still have my mind, I'll have to content myself with looking and remembering. |

6) Magically find more space to stuff things. |

4 and 5, jointly. I've done about all I can do for now with 4. 5 is ongoing. Option 6 would be "Find or create more storage space," which I am always working on. Going vertical is the solution -- more upright shelving and cabinetry, less horizontally oriented storage furniture. |

I'm quite good at fitting extra things in, but increasingly I sell off old stuff to make room for new stuff. I find having things jammed into every corner mentally burdensome. tbh I've got so much stuff anyway I'm largely filling in odd gaps, but over the last few years I've got rid of my entire Fantasy, Colonial and Modern Africa collection as well as my entire 20mm WW2 collection. It makes room for new stuff. |

7) Use a smaller scale – takes up less space |

6. I get rid of figures because I want to, not because I feel that need I need to make room for more stuff. |
