Iran missile attack on Qatar causes 'extensive damage' to facility housing huge gas plant

Is anyone actually in charge now in Iran? Does this make any sense? to attack their Islamic neighbors' infrastructure?

Can anyone make sense of this?

I would have thought it pretty self-evident: they're only striking energy infrastructure tied to their adversaries and timing it as retaliation.

Iran's recent drone and missile strikes on targets in Qatar and other Gulf states are best understood as calculated retaliation and strategic signalling rather than random aggression.

After its own key gas infrastructure was hit, Iran is responding in kind by targeting energy facilities and locations tied to U.S. presence, showing that any state hosting American forces is effectively within the conflict zone. At the same time, by striking major gas hubs in the Gulf—especially those linked to shared resources or global supply—Iran is deliberately raising the economic stakes, disrupting energy markets, and pressuring outside powers to push for de-escalation. In short, it's a strategy of controlled escalation: inflict enough pain to deter further attacks and internationalise the conflict, but stop short of triggering a full-scale war it cannot win.

Seems pretty self-evident to me though the US seems to have missed the possibility.

BTW "Islamic" is not quite as monolithic as you seem to think. can I respectfully suggest you look up "Shiite" & "Sunni"?

The Trump family is heavily invested in Qatar, has extensive development plans there, including a luxury resort. POTUS has extended to Qatar numerous business opportunities in the US as well. And he sent the Venezuelan oil cash to a bank there for safekeeping after the overthrown of Maduro.
