I am semi-seriously considering building the necessary vehicles for an armoured train scenario – I haven't decided whether that would be Russian (super-clunky looking), German (very efficient looking – except for the captured ones!) or Polish (somewhere in the middle!!).

I'm thinking of using items like this:

and wondered if anyone had any experience with them. Some of the sets allow trains of 1m length to be made (and one can actually build an historical train using two sets that will be 2m long). I think that's a bit big.

I'm wondering how sturdy they are – the blockier German trains like this

look like they should be more robust to handling, and perhaps easier to build.

Anyone tried this? Any real difference in which manufacturer – UM-MT, Unimodel, Hobby Boss seem to be the main players in this kit areas.

My occassionally appearing sensible side says go with something smaller like this to start with
