Laughing Out Loud! I was not aware of the AMMA… Their armor is so protective that their weapons are mostly ineffectual. They resort to take-downs more-so than weapon strikes -- it takes a lot of energy to get back up with all of that armor on.
I practiced Ju-Jitsu and Judo for 10 years. I know all about leg sweeps, body throws, and ground fighting. It takes a lot of energy to get back up, so just taking your armored opponent down, forcing them to get back up, drains them -- a lot.
I talked with a St. Paul Police Officer, at a Judo Clinic back in 1993, about street fights he'd witnessed. He shared that out of 100 street fights, 96 went to the ground after the people got tired of being punched: they clinched and took their opponent down to avoid being struck, grappling to try for a choke hold. The remaining four combatants didn't really want to fight, they just did mock fighting to save face in front of their friends.
Striking martial arts are good, but you need to know ground fighting because you will end up on the ground if your strikes do not end the fight, quickly. Cheers!
