started experimenting again and have come up with Fire Fields- a different way to look at troops in the modern field of battle. Ran my first full playtest in Afghanistan. Found here: link Enjoy Joe |

That's a really cool idea, Joe, and a great setup! I've got a lot of questions to see how this works, but I suppose I'll let this play out a bit first. And you're correct, once again a Marine is showing you how it's done ;) V/R, Jack |

I would agree with all your bullet points so I strongly suspect you're going in the wright direction, but I will add three comments: - I think some troops may move fast if the result is a) they reach cover b) they get into contact [The flight to the front concept] The heaviest weapon principle also applies to morale, if I'm being attacked in the rear, I can't afford to worry about the little things, nor will any minor tactical advantage help. Because fire isn't cumulative removing figures/bases, except where whole units are removed, should be avoided. This simplifies the game and generates fog of war by not allowing players to assess the state of units by their casualty count; something no general knows in real time. |

Jack, thanks. Knew you would like it. There is still some fiddle but less. Regarding branch of service I think you meant that this is the first time a marine has overcome their training and is contributing to society!!! : ) Mark, Agree with all your points. Playing a company game with 2 to 3 stands per squad is a lot a stands. It does allow for squad integrity to be modeled and partial casualties. As a solo player I am not worried about hiding status of units but in a two player game that makes sense. Thanks Joe |
