If you play BattleTech, do you prefer Classic (any edition, including Battledroids) or Alpha Strike?

* I prefer Classic BattleTech.
* I prefer BattleTech Alpha Strike.
* I like them equally.
* I do not play BattleTech.

Sounds good! Would love to see the results.

Alpha Strike

I prefer Classic, but like Alpha Strike for a time limited game.

KarlBergman07 Mar 2026 11:36 a.m. PST

I like Alpha Strike.

Alpha Strike; the new "Aces" game that focuses on solo/team play was very well done. They did a decent job of capturing enemy command priorities and pretty well in picking up the tactical differences in each role of mech (brawlers act differently than strikers which are different than missile boats).

But there is no shortage of mech games which could give both a run for their money…

I've only played Classic and Battle Force. I preferred Battle Force and recently purchased Scouring Sands. Looking forward to trying it out.

Alpha Strike by far.

If you are talking 1080-90s , classic Battletech of the Succession War then that one.
The current BT uses too many exception and specialty rules.
I have a lot of current players and retreads use Alpha Strike

D6 Junkie07 Mar 2026 8:46 p.m. PST

Alpha!

I'll save "Not My Cuppa Tea" for when the actual Poll comes out.

Definitely Alpha Strike.

Thanks.

I have the "Battletech Essentials" boxed game that I got on deep clearance from Target. Which system (if either) is that supposed to be?

"Battletech Essentials" boxed game is an introductory level "Classic" with just mechs and none of the combined arms units.
