Did Schumer just demand that Trump be more resolute on Iran? Chuck Schumeron X today: @SenSchumer When I talked to Secretary Rubio, I implored him to be straight with Congress and the American people about the objectives of these strikes and what comes next. Iran must never be allowed to attain a nuclear weapon but the American people do not want another endless and costly war in the Middle East when there are so many problems at home. The administration has not provided Congress and the American people with critical details about the scope and immediacy of the threat. Confronting Iran's malign regional activities, nuclear ambitions, and harsh oppression of the Iranian people demands American strength, resolve, regional coordination, and strategic clarity. Unfortunately, President Trump's fitful cycles of lashing out and risking wider conflict are not a viable strategy. The administration must brief Congress, including an immediate all senators classified briefing and in public testimony, to answer these vital questions. The Senate should quickly return to session and reassert its constitutional duty by passing our resolution to enforce the War Powers Act. My prayers are with our brave American servicemembers |

Frank Chadwick in a talk at CelestiCon years ago in discussing Germany and Russi in WW2 quoted a historian who said "armies are fragile but nations are durable". Germany kicked the Russian army around over and over, but, in Frank's words, "couldn't get Russia to stay on the mat". The Iranian regime has substantial internal issues (water, inflation, jobs, culture) and this might tip over, but it will be the internal dynamics that make the difference. Occasionally bombing something might help, but no amount of bombing can do the job without the hearts and minds thing. That's pretty well established. |

Doc, whatever he did or did not do, would have been wrong in their eyes. As far as a new regime in Iran, if that happens. I doubt it could be worse. We will see if these are true: 1) "Iranian Defence minister Amir Nasirzadeh and revolutionary guards commander Mohammed Pakpour killed in Israeli attacks -three sources familiar with the matter tell Reuters." 2) Media-ite "Israel's N12 News is reporting that the Israeli government believes that Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is dead. A translated version of an N12 update from Saturday morning citing a senior Israeli official suggests that the Israelis have assessed that Khamenei is "no longer with us" after the United States and Israel launched a joint operation against the Iranian regime overnight." 3) "They did not bomb Iran. They waited for Iran's entire leadership to sit down in the same room and then they bombed Iran. Months of intelligence. Thousands of hours of surveillance and signal intercepts. One variable: the moment the Supreme Leader, the President, and senior military command gathered in a single location at the same time. That moment was 8:15 this morning. Daylight. Every previous Israeli strike on Iran came at night. June 2025 launched in darkness. October 2024 after midnight. Iran's entire air defense doctrine is built around the assumption that Israel attacks in the dark. Israel attacked in broad daylight because the target was not infrastructure. The target was a meeting. Reuters confirms strikes targeted Khamenei and Pezeshkian. CNN confirms months of joint US-Israeli planning. Israeli officials confirmed the strike hit the location where Iran's top officials were gathered. Whether Khamenei was moved before the strike or extracted after is the most consequential unknown on the planet right now. If before, someone inside Tehran's inner circle told Jerusalem when and where the meeting would happen. If after, the strikes hit the room and he survived. Both scenarios are catastrophic for the regime. Because Iran's leadership now knows three things. Israel knew where they were meeting. Israel knew when they were meeting. Israel knew who would be in the room. And everything we watched over the past month, the F-22s at Ovda, the tankers at Ben Gurion, Al Udeid emptied to zero, 270 transport flights, all of it was the delivery architecture for one precision strike on one gathering. Every future meeting of Iran's senior leadership now carries one question: does Israel know about this one too. This is not a military operation. This is the destruction of institutional trust inside a regime. Every general who sits with Khamenei tomorrow will wonder who told Jerusalem about today. Every IRGC commander who receives a meeting summons will calculate whether attendance is duty or a death sentence. Every secure facility in Tehran has been proven insecure. In June 2025 Israel killed 30 generals in the opening minutes. That was brute force across dispersed targets. This was a scalpel. One meeting. One moment. Months of patience. Iran fired missiles at six countries in retaliation. Most intercepted. One civilian dead from debris in Abu Dhabi. Saudi Arabia responded by pledging all its capabilities against Iran. The Gulf coalition that did not exist yesterday exists today because Tehran built it by attacking everyone simultaneously. Israel traded one morning of precision strikes for the permanent destruction of Iran's command cohesion. That is not a battle. That is checkmate disguised as a first " … This is true. "Many Arab nations warn of 'full right to respond' after being Iran's retaliatory strikes Arab nations are sounding off against Iran after the regime launched strikes against U.S. interests in neighboring countries in the region in retaliation for U.S.-Israeli joint strikes against Iran's leaders." |

The regime now faces a potential mass popular uprising, bankruptcy, and a severe outside threat. I suspect its adherents are sticking because they will face mass retaliation if they lose control. They will soon lose control. |

I have my doubts. By what I know the revolt has been put down. Will they try again with this? The Republican Guard is still strong. If they stand by the government, they will just slaughter any internal resistance again. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the major sponsor of terrorism be taken out. Just don't know if this will do it. Also, if it falls who/what will replace the current government? Will whoever also keep supporting terrorism? |

Gratten, could a new regime be any worse? Might be as bad, but would be hard pressed to be worse. But it is up to the Iranian people to change their government. They did it in the 70's when they got this one. …. From early AM's speech … "…… To the members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, the armed forces, and all of the police, I say tonight that you must lay down your weapons and have complete immunity, or in the alternative, face certain death. So, lay down your arms, you will be treated fairly with total immunity, or you will face certain death. Finally, to the great proud people of Iran, I say tonight that the hour of your freedom is at hand. Stay sheltered, don't leave your home. It's very dangerous outside. Bombs will be dropping everywhere. When we are finished, take over your government. It will be yours to take. This will be probably your only chance for generations. For many years, you have asked for America's help, but you never got it. No president was willing to do what I am willing to do tonight. Now you have a president who is giving you what you want. So let's see how you respond. America is backing you with overwhelming strength and devastating force. Now is the time to seize control of your destiny and to unleash the prosperous and glorious future that is close within your reach. This is the moment for action. Do not let it pass." |

IMO … Today's kinetic action by the US and Israel has change history for the best. Finally real US leaders working with the IDF are removing this plague on the world. Not appeasement like Obama and Biden did, just giving them billions. And foolishly believed they could buy off militant islamic terrorists. That $ went to their plans to building nukes and supporting bloody terrorist like Hamas, Hezbollah, etc. The blood of those all those Americans killed by this murderous islamic regime is on both Obama's and Biden's incompetent hands. They proved to be complete idiots when it came to dealing with the Ayatollah's regime and supporters. Add all the Israelis tortured, raped, butchered, slaughtered and held captive by Hamas. Who was funded by the Ayatollah's islamic regime. Plus, the thousands of Iranians that these butchered in the name of their god and medieval religious laws. Including the thousands they recently slaughtered in this recent revolution to get rid of this barbaric regime and its supporters … It will probably take a few weeks to remove all these subhuman troglodytes off the board. With TLAMs, drones and strike aircraft. In the end, the Mid East and the US plus Europe will be much, much better off … The very, very good the Ayatollah is dead, plus 40 and more of some others of their important leaders. Many key targets, etc. have been destroyed. Body count [so far] 200 KIAs/500 WIAs, but that will change. No, the shooting is not over, and these strikes will continue for a couple of weeks Or more. Yes, there are more critical/important targets to be served. E.g. Missiles, IRGC, IRGCN, war supplies, etc. I think this time we can win the peace … with 80% of the Iranians who are anti-Ayatollah, anti-IRGC, etc. This should give a positive outcome more likely. If there are any questions by the Dems, etc. why we and the IDF attacked Iran. It has to be clear … The militant, fanatical fundamentalist islamist regime cannot get nukes. The Dems, a few GOP and others are again whining. One idiotic Dem said that the attack on Iran's nuclear facilities a few months back was a failure. What? He obviously doesn't study/know military history, weapons, tactics, etc. Those strikes were to convince the Ayatollah to stop trying to get nukes. So, we would not have to do what is happening now. Causing more death and destruction. If those first strikes didn't convince them. We told them we have more weapons systems not to try to convince them. but the US and IDF will terminate them with extreme prejudice. This is Day 1 … no it is not over; there is much more to do. But this is not the Obama and Biden Admins, the second and third teams. Hillary is not SecState and this is not Libya. The campaign has just started. E.g. Grant took a number of methods to take Vicksburg. In the end if fell into Union hands. Failure would be if after the first Union attack no matter what the outcome was. The Union would have withdrawn … And already Iran leaders are taking a page from the Hamas play book. Or even Saddam's Baghdad Bob[I think he's dead too?] … Iran's gov't is saying they killed many US service members. And the US bombed a school killing 80 children. Both Hamas and Iran's islamist leadership are well practiced liars … Again … You can't believe anything islamists say … This is payback for all the Americans killed by Iran's islamist gov't. And their support of the Hamas butchers who committed one of the worst atrocities in the 21st Century. Oct 7th, this will avenge those deaths … |

Day one seems very successful, especially to Iranian leadership and their air defenses, which are pretty much now nonexistent. Successful use of the kamikaze drones (which were modified versions of the cheap Iranian drones.. ironic right?). Excellent intel by both the U.S. and Israel. I understand why we are doing this. I back this based on everything Iran has done directly or indirectly to the U.S. and our allies since the Islamic revolution in the 70's. Also as the major supporter of Islamic terrorism worldwide. But I hate the potential loss of life to our service people. As well as civilian and military of our allies. The cost of these attacks monetarily and to stockpiles for the U.S., replacement costs of which will come at today's prices. Some other impacts potentially good and bad.
The price of a barrel of oil could go up temporarily. But countries like Saudi Arabia have already jacked up production. This will also drain Iraq's stockpiles and their abilities to produce more. That of course will hurt the supplies of their terrorists allies and shipments to Russia. Impact to China: "China is Iran's largest oil customer, purchasing over 90% of Iran's total crude exports as of early 2026. While official Chinese customs data often reports zero imports from Iran due to U.S. sanctions, independent tracking reveals a massive "shadow" trade. The New York Times" China also supplies refined oil to N Korea via a pipeline, but Russia remains their major oil supplier I believe. So far no real response from the Houthis or other Iranian terrorists proxies. A surprise to many. Of course we will have to see how the days progress. |

As of March 1, 2026, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) has officially declared that it has established air superiority over Iran following the first 24 hours of Operation Roaring Lion. Status of Aerial Control Establishment of Superiority: The IDF announced on Sunday morning that initial strikes successfully neutralized Iran's integrated air defense system, allowing Israeli aircraft to operate freely over central Iran and the capital. Transition to "Stand-In" Strikes: Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed that the IAF has transitioned from long-range "stand-off" weapons to "stand-in" munitions, which involve dropping heavy precision bombs directly over targets while flying inside Iranian airspace. Geographic Reach: Superiority was first achieved in western Iran on Saturday before expanding to cover Tehran and the "heart of the regime" by Sunday. Operational Speed: Military officials noted that air superiority was achieved faster than in previous conflicts (such as June 2025), largely due to the immediate destruction of radar and surface-to-air missile batteries. The Times of Israel The Times of Israel +4 Strategic Impact Unmanned Dominance: The Jerusalem Post reports that Israeli drones are now the "backbone" of the strategy, hovering over sensitive sites for extended periods to intercept missile launch teams before they can fire. Infrastructure Destruction: The IAF and U.S. Air Force are reportedly close to "air supremacy," a higher state of control where Iranian defenses are so battered they can no longer contest the airspace in any capacity. Targeting Efficiency: This control has enabled the targeting of 500+ sites, including the offices of senior leadership and IRGC headquarters, with zero reported Israeli or U.S. aircraft losses so far. NYT "Shortly before the United States and Israel were poised to launch an attack on Iran, the C.I.A. zeroed in on the location of perhaps the most important target: Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the country's supreme leader. The C.I.A. had been tracking Ayatollah Khamenei for months, gaining more confidence about his locations and his patterns, according to people familiar with the operation. Then the agency learned that a meeting of top Iranian officials would take place on Saturday morning at a leadership compound in the heart of Tehran. Most critically, the C.I.A. learned that the supreme leader would be at the site. The United States and Israel decided to adjust the timing of their attack, in part to take advantage of the new intelligence, according to officials with knowledge of the decisions. The information provided a window of opportunity for the two countries to achieve a critical and early victory: the elimination of top Iranian officials and the killing of Ayatollah Khamenei." … "The United States and Israeli governments, which had originally planned to launch a strike at night under the cover of darkness, made the decision to adjust the timing to take advantage of the information about the gathering at the government compound in Tehran on Saturday morning. The leaders were set to meet where the offices of the Iranian presidency, the supreme leader and Iran's National Security Council are located. Israel had determined that the gathering would include top Iranian defense officials, including Mohammad Pakpour, the commander in chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps; Aziz Nasirzadeh, the minister of defense; Admiral Ali Shamkhani, the head of the Military Council; Seyyed Majid Mousavi, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Aerospace Force; Mohammad Shirazi, the deputy intelligence minister; and others." |

"Sustaining operations beyond the initial window presents a more complex challenge — one shaped by a "zero-sum" competition for missile defense inventories between the Middle East and Europe. Officials and analysts warn that certain U.S. missile and air-defense interceptor inventories have been severely drawn down by the relentless pace of recent operations. The strategic dilemma for the Pentagon is that the systems required to shield U.S. bases from Iranian retaliation are the same ones being depleted by the defense of Ukraine and the ongoing protection of Israel." |

And now for some very open news. I only report it because of the FBI unit involved and it was done with both rifle and pistol. "An overnight shooting at an Austin, Texas bar on Sunday morning left three dead, including the gunman, who was killed at the scene, and 14 injured.
Per Austin Statesman reporter Tony Plohetski, the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force is currently investigating with local authorities. The shooter used a pistol and a rifle in the attack." This could be like the mass shooting in Cincinnati last night, that was probably gang related. Or it could be some disenfranchised fringe individual. |

Killing Chamenei, destroying military capabilities of Iran and weakening the Revolutionary Guards is a welcomed and necessary first step to change the regime in Iran. But if you don´t have the power to install a new regime by yourself or a powerful organised opposition that will now be able to overcome the Mullahs and the RG you just poke the hornest nest and let the Iranians be again at the mercy of radicals. So if you gonna do it- do it right. |

35th..that's why so many were stunned by the bizarre behavior of Hesgeth texting the same kind of info, in great detail, to a bunch of people including a reporter. What kind of a leader? I am hoping that there are future plans for here and Venezuela with clear objectives. There are still plenty of believers in Iran and the region….Hezbollah Isis, Taliban, Hamas, Houthi, etc. never really go away. You cannot make treaties with them. They do not engage in traditional warfare. Like the war on drugs, you can win battles, but winning the war is another matter. |

It does say confirmed. So my placing that news out was justified: "FBI -- BAR SHOOTING IN AUSTIN TEXAS IS TERRORISM. Three dead and 14 wounded, shooter is dead" I did expect this, as we have allowed way too many unvetted Muslims into our nation. As have many other western nations. I have said before in many TMP threads, I believed it was a huge huge mistake. Of course before anyone else says it, it is not confirmed an Islamic terrorist. But hard not to believe it currently. I believe Austin is one of Texas's most liberal cities as well: "While the city has historically identified as a "Freedom City" and passed resolutions to protect undocumented immigrants" So another reason. I could be jumping on confirmation of terrorism too quickly though. That happens when I read too many headlines. 😉 |

As to Pete Hegseth, under him the Department of War has now conducted two complex operations, in Venezuela and now in Iran, with no leaks and minimal casualties and great success. If he is incompetent, I wonder what competence looks like? |

3 Doc, if you count our first attack on Iran. |
