Um, looks like my original question got lost? Looking at getting my map done for my game. The two main styles I am considering are an 2-D realistic terrain style OR a artistic 1860s "hand painted" style. Trying to figure out IF one would be more eye catching and popular then the other. Do you guys have a preference? Also FYI the map is an area map NOT a hex map. Thanks! |

I would go with the realistic terrain. My experience with ""historic" maps is that they are hard to read and use. |

What is the purpose of the map/what role does it play? |

Ever see an old issue of BATTLEFIELDS? Still my favorite maps. you can see exactly were all the terrain is to be placed, but trees, hedges and buildings are drawn as though you were looking at them from an elevation, and not just the usual roofs. A problem for towns, I suspect, but worked fine for stray buildings and villages. |

Is this for scratch building terrain or a scenario map? |
