They include Chinatown, so they consider PI movies to be cop movies. So where are The Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep (either version)? Or is this another kid who doesn't think any good movies were made before he was born?

Historical – LA Confidential (do wish the movie included the train riot) . A close second – Assault on Precinct 13 (1976), the 2005 version is passable.
