For the 1st time since Historicon moved to the downtown location, I missed Room Block.

What is the best alternative? Hope for a cancellation as the convention gets closer? Has anyone had success with this strategy?

Walk from the Holiday Inn?

Book on Rt. 30 or elsewhere that is cheaper and drive?

Last year I stayed in a AirBnB downtown, and found the walk delightful. If the Holiday Inn were cheaper, I would have just stayed there and left the Marriott to the GMs and vendors. I like downtown Lancaster, and I enjoy a walk and a different breakfast stop every morning.

It would be different if I were a GM, and I guess I was just lucky I didn't buy anything that would overflow my backpack. grin

I stayed at the Holiday Inn our first year there.

I stayed out on Rte 30 twice, to be present for 2 friends to be inducted into the Legion of Honor.

I never found what I considered a satisfactory approach. I have since stopped trying.

There will be cancellations. There was over 40 for Cold Wars. Call back periodically, talk to the manager and get to know him/her. If you are not a Marriott Bonvoy member become one so they have all your info in there data base.

They may even call you, they did me before Cold Wars.
