Grand what? you ask.

I`ve been revamping my Napleonic rules for the past year or so and I`m considering a relaunch with a 2nd Edition.

If you`ve not come across these rules in the past, then I`ll fill you in.

Grand Manouvere (GM) is a fast play tactical rule set primarily desinged with 6mm figure in mind, but will be avaialble with options for different base sizes (20mm,30mm and 40mm widths).
It has an orders based system without requiring orders issues at every turn. GM employs simultaneous movement and so the turns will rattle by.
The general`s initiative rules will allow two players to semi-automate their subordinate generals` decisions in their armies. And it sould be possible to achieve a conclusion to engagements that involve two corps per side on an 8x4ft table within a few hours – so that makes Waterloo a possiblity within a playing surface of about 10ft long. Corps sized encounters are playable with a couple of hours perhaps.

The new edition package of the rules will have essential/basic and optional rule booklets. Most of the optionals will add deatil, but some optional rules will be time savers too, allowing for faster play in larger games.

The rules are supported by historical examples of national doctrines or sysytems and skirmishing practices.

I just thought I would test the water here at TMP, to see what the likely reception might be for another (resuscitated) Napoleonic wargames rules set!

With Best Regards to All!

I see there are still some old, familiar names to be seen in recent discussions from "back in the day"!

Sounds interesting but a bit detail on the mechanics, book-keeping, etc. would be useful.

I've sometimes wondered how simultaneous movement works in practice. I think the older WRG rules used it in the 70s.

Believe I have a copy of your first edition. As I recall they were good rules but I was using something else at the time.

Currently playing From Valmy to Waterloo as the tactical set for an 1809 Campaign I have underway. Would be interested in a 2nd Edition of Grand Manoeuvre.
