Here's a new Fantasy unit from the same guy who likes to complain about the slow death of historical wargaming! My fist metal miniatures were likely from TSR for Dungeons and Dragons, so I've been straddling the fence from the very beginning! I like cheeseburgers AND pizza too. Anyway, I have tons of other dwarves for more traditional conceptions, but I wanted to do something a little different for the heavies: Black Metal – the musical esthetic as much as the color of the armor! link |

Mostly an historic gamer here but I do have a soft spot for dwarves in any fantasy game. Yes, I am a little on the short side with facial hair. |

I really like the Northstar plastic figures: separate heads, upper torsos, arms, weapons, etc. They allow the gamer to make some unique poses. I bought a couple of Gnoll Warrior sets from them. I was able to glue a couple of heads on, with them twisted sideways, as if they are bodily communicating, "What?" Combining that with turning the same heads up/down at an angle, and you get even more body language from them. I have no idea how well this would work with their more demi-human sets. I found the Northstar plastic figures easy to paint, and like I said, their ability to configure unique poses, really makes them a joy to put together and to paint. They are extremely well sculpted as they are able to be assembled in such diverse poses. I wish I could employ more of their models into my fantasy armies, but they came along many years after I started collecting fantasy miniatures for my armies. Love the black armor, love the white/black face paint. I would not employ such a recognized satanic symbol, but that is just me. Cheers! |
