Osprey Campaigns, I think, did a nice book on the Lorraine campaign in 1944 and the Panzer Brigades featured heavily, and not well. Lacking recon, artillery, and unit cohesion they usually underperformed in the West, although the authors thought they would probably perform closer to "as expected" on the East Front.

Think of them as a severely understrength American Armored Division Combat Command, or a divisionless and depleted British Armored Brigade.

The U.S. 90th Infantry Division basically destroyed the 106th Panzer Brigade in a day or two at the village of Mairy without really noticing much in their AARs, that's how badly that one performed.

Years ago I used that same battle to base a scenario on for my Spearhead replacement/upgrade that ended up being kind of fun. I should see if I still have that scenario somewhere…
