Just wondering if I can use my northern militia in civilian clothes as tory militia as well? I know they are my soldiers but I just wanted to get opinions. Thinking early war.

Militia is militia. In Real Life, they MIGHT wear cloth or leaves in their hats to differentiate themselves.
But, like at Kings Mountain, you knew where your neighbors stood.

Documentation is scarce and usually limited to personal letters, but Militia units usually did try to have some sort of identification. Could consist of standardized coat colors, plumes in hats, sashes, etc. Just some symbol to show they belonged together. Officers/Leaders would try, with mixed degrees of success, to have some sort of military uniform.

Are you talking about militia in north or south?
Let me know which Loyalist unit and I will check my article on Loyalist units of the American Revolution.
