One thing pops out immediately, which tracks with my memories, is that adults did not wear sports shoes (sneakers) unless they were doing sports. I pushed a ice-cream pushcart in the summer of 1980 and I distinctly remember that a new trend had just emerged – ladies in business attire were starting to wear sneakers to and from work, changing into their business shoes once they got to the office. |
