You were asked – TMP link Which fantasy author would you most like to see as a special guest at a wargaming convention or show? And in the final round of voting: 21% said "Michael Moorcock" 16% said "J.K. Rowling" 9% said "Neil Gaiman" |

Obviously – author, rock star, a key inspirer of the whole of GW's output….. |

Given which ones are still alive, an understandable choice. But I wouldn't invite any of the live ones, and "none of these" did outscore the New Wave's hero by five percentage points. Tedious man. A decent read when I was 17 and going through every heroic fantasy in sight, but even then not a good read, and that was a long time ago. |

I would have preferred George RR Martin, so I could heckle him about Winds. But I would also have serious questions, such as "Could Houses Celtigar or Baratheon have dragon riders?" Never having read Moorcock, I would probably spend the time of his lectures in the flea market instead, searching for CHEAP copies of Funcken's Lace Wars, Pengel and Hurt, and Volley and Bayonet. |

You want cheap Funcken Lace Wars – should have bought them when they were remaindered in the 1970s! Or, when everyone dumped them because the Ospreys were "so much better"… Moorcock's output is vast – if you wanted to start on it I'd suggest all the Elric books in as close a chronological sequence as you can manage, Hawkmoon saga – particularly The Runestaff, and The books of Corum. Since he had his band Deep Fix, hung around and collaborated with Hawkwind during the Lemmy era in particular (they did Warrior on th Edge of Time and Chronicles of The Black Sword,so closely were they intertwined) that he's sure to have some interesting stories about that as well. GRRM did The Armageddon Rag, so he's also got a musical bent I guess, and he does seem to have styled himself very much after Moorcock's look. I'd like to hear what he has to say about Fevre Dream and Sandkings, but I've never read his GOT series. |

I understand that Moorcock is/was a Texas resident but I could never get into the Elric books or fantasy rock, whoever played it. |

I honestly dislike the way Bill conducts polls. The none of these/no opinion, not my cup of tea, this is ridiculous, not my genre options need to go. You always get someone, just like this thread, who has to point out the none of these/no opinion almost always wins. It looks foolish. When I look at a poll, I only care about the opinions of people who actually care about the subject. |

I can't disagree with that. |
