I know this has come up before. But what about including the ability to "approve" of a post?

Yes, I know you can add a +1 or a brief comment but this takes effort. Many don't bother. But if after reading a post, you could just tick an approval which then gets recorded, this would IMO be an improvement.

Benefits? Non-confrontational agreement. Not everyone wants to argue or write essays. A tick lets lurkers and newer members participate safely. But above all, it motivates contributors.Never underestimate this: people like knowing their effort landed. This encourages forum activity & a forum lives or dies by the number & quality of its posts.

I would stress a tick of disapproval is to be avoided. For obvious reasons.

BTW have you noticed how TMP seems to have hit a golden spot over the last 3-4 weeks? Lots of shared photos & games, lots of essential hobby camaraderie, lots of hobby information. …perhaps less political & divisive postings?? I would remind people that as fellow hobbyists we have a great deal in common.

I'll crosspost this to TMP Poll Suggestions, and let's see what the community thinks. (I believe the idea has been rejected in the past, but minds change.)

I have to chuckle, because I recently received a message from someone who says he is leaving TMP. He says he is swarmed on every topic by people who disagree with him, and member keep making 'juvenile' poll suggestions.

I think there's a lot of truth to the idea that you find what you're looking for – if you want to find faults, you will; if you want to find happiness, you'll find that too. grin

Agreed. I've always thought it would be nice if the original poster knew how many read his post, sort of like a page hit counter.

A poll? Definitely a good idea.

I think we're adult enough to decide if the idea suits TMP or not

Options:

Yes – absolutely.

Maybe – depends on how it works.

No – not needed.

A pity about the chap leaving. Plenty of people disagree with me but I gotten used to it (& promise *not* to cry if my Tick proposal gets crunched).

I like the idea, but instead of approving -- the person who posts isn't asking for a readers approbval as they've already made the post. Perhaps including upto 3 ticks. One (1) for liked it, 2 for really liked it, 3 for "thought it was great" … but no more than 3, perhaps just 2.

I think its a great idea, very useful, I support this and will vote for it in a poll.

I for one am NOT leaving TMP. I agree with Ochoin, there has been some really useful discussions here recently. I come here to discuss wargaming and military history. History has much to teach us.

What I have decided to do is NOT frequent the modern boards where current affairs are argued over. Several contributors there have felt free, perhaps emboldened by the last 12 months, to espouse very far right extreme views. I don't want to read far right opinions any more than I do far left opinions. My father joined up in September 1939 when Australia entered WWII. He then spent nearly 6 years fighting against the far right in Europe and the Pacific, and the impact on his health shortened his life. I need to honour his memory and his commitment to justice, freedom and democracy. He fought against bullies. Might is not right.

The history lessons of the 1930's need to be learn't again today.

I absolutely agree people are entitled to hold these views and express them but I am entitled to not have to read them.

Thanks Bill for all you do to try and moderate and keep us focused on wargaming and military history.

I've voted against the "Like" in the past.
But I was wrong.
Now, I would vote in favor of 🤷👍

I would rather not have a tick system.

Make a post if you think it of interest to other miniature gamers.
Gamers should comment having taken the effort to do so.

The less like other "social media" that TMP is, the better.

I would like to know how many people in total viewed my post, like it or not.
