Our club has been trying Kill Team but the endless layers of special rules, special actions and ploys might be more than we really want to wrestle with. So, are there any good skirmish rules for Kill Team sized forces (5-12 minis) and have goo dunit customization and differentiation? |

One Page Rules, Grimdark Future – Firefight. Free online for the basic rules which really are just one page (and on the back of the page is a full list of all the special rules. For a little bit of cash you can get the advanced rules which give you optional rules that let you tweak it to whatever detail level you want. Figure agnostic with full list builder free on Army Forge. You can use all your kill team miniatures, or play stuff that GW would never let in the door. Robert |

Take a look at Exploit Zero and Zona Alpha by Patrick Todoroff. Both are available from Amazon and reasonably priced. |

We use the Grimdark Rules and love them! Fast, easy and as noted cheap (i.e. free) As a bonus, easy enough that the grandkids play (and kick my pasty butt all the time) |

Grimdark is fantastic. So is Space Wierdos…plus it has the best solo minis rules I've come across…. Try them, you'll like them….. Dave |

Oddly, I've been looking at the old GDW games Mayday and Azhanti High Lightning. They did pretty much what Kill Team does, and more cleanly in many cases. I don't know if there's enough unit differentiation in the basic rules, but it does show the differences between standard humans, Vargr, and Zhodani (human, but with a psionic ruling class. I believe that Striker then included rules for other alien races. In any case, you can write up rules for whatever you need very easily. I'm not quite sure what you mean by "customization." |

I was thinking of making custom units by buying weapons or skills or upgrades or whatever…. |

You could limit the number of special rules or what not? |

Mayday lets you select weapons, armor, etc. It also has skill levels for different weapon types, since it's based on the Traveller RPG (not directly identical, though). In Mayday, each person has action points based on their stats (Dexterity + Endurance), so you can get a lot of differentiation that way, ranging from subtle to extreme. (I can imagine Eldar Harlequins having ridiculous amounts of APs, for example.) They're available as PDFs on Wargame Vault, IIRC. |

There is also At Close Quarters, a set of skirmish rules that arise out of Traveller: link I've never played it. |
