My first 'proper' wargames army was 15mm French Napoleonic, using the beautiful Heritage Napoleonettes (via Skytrex I think). The nucleus of the army was bought at the Northern Militaire show in either 1980 or 1981.

With limited finances it was added to at birthdays and Christmas. Buying 'blind' from adverts in Military Modelling some of my line regiments had a mish mash of poses, due to misinterpreting pose definitions. Many units had Jacobite command figures (officer, drummer, ensign) which towered over the Napoleonettes, and looked awful style wise together.

Fast forward to 15 or so years ago and I dug them out in the hope of weaning the offspring off their computer games (slightly successful). The Jacobite figures had mostly snapped at the ankles and were replaced by Naismith figures (which were a much better fit). The all Heritage units still having a Mish mash of poses.

Napoleonics got pushed to the background as my English Civil War project became all consuming. The occasional bout of painting Napoleonics brought me little joy compared to ECW painting.

Recently ran out of ECW figures to paint so cracked on with painting Austrians, and I have finally found a little joy painting Naps.

Just before Christmas I sustained some broken ribs, and was laid up on the sofa for weeks on end. Perusing a certain popular online auction site, I have picked up a packet of French line/light command NOS, and some units of line Napoleonettes ready painted (all need stripping due to thick yellowed varnish).

With these purchases all my Napoleonettes line units will have consistent poses, and matching Napoleonettes command figures. My Napoleonettes legere, which had Naismith command, will now have Napoleonettes command figures too.

Plus there's enough 'spares' to raise 4 new line regiments (all matching poses, with matching command).

Whilst not exactly earth shattering, this gives me more pleasure than it probably deserves – fixing 40+ year old 'mistakes'.

They were, and are, beautiful figures

It's what the hobby is all about; replenish, restore, renew, repaint. Always something to do.

My Prussian guard and some of my Russians are Heritage, probably my favorite figures

I share your appreciation of some of the older figure manufacturers – I would love to see a few photos of your Napoleonette battalions.

I am and old gamer and started painting miniatures in 1977. My first were the Minifigs first edition 15mm strip Minifigs. Soon the Heritage were released in the later part of 1977. I was fortunate that I was stationed in Texas at Fort Hood.
Heritage was made in Dallas and our store was a full service Heritage outlet with every range including John Cater, lord of the rings, Star Trek , ACW, Panzer Troops, and Napoleonics.
My Napoleonic armies were the largest. 30+ 12 man battalions each. We were playtesting Guard du Corps rules.
Easy to paint. What modern players who have never seen them do not realize is that every flag was cast metal and were ETCHED with national patterns.

Napoleonettes were the bee's knees of 15mm Naps.

Clearly, still a lot of love for Napoleonettes.

Those were some of the best figures although I bought a lot of them I really got around to painting most of them. If anyone needs some Napoleonette Russians, I have an army of them to sell.

Wonderful memories. After strip Minifigs it was like discovering a steak after a diet of hamburger and I still feel fondly towards those Minifigs but oh my, those were, are simply exquisite.

Don't forget the Heritage Confederettes! They were my first 15mm figures and got me hooked on the scale. I loved those figures and mixed them into mixed-pose regiments for both Union and Confederate armies.

As someone (relative to many here) newer to Naps and historicals, I am always a bit jealous of, and admire the old stories and digging out of old models. I also appreciate an old and storied, but less "perfect" paint job over a modern perfection. Big fan of Blunders paint jobs over anything in the Perry catalog for example. And collections so old and big they are almost unplayable in a person's lifetime left, like an ASL scenario collection. Thanks for posting.
