It was time to retire the Christmas-themed portraits for all the editors, so we went back to AI, fed it our photos, and asked for techno-themed portraits. The results show the advantages and limitations of AI. The resemblance to our original photos is… not very. The female portraits were 'glammed up' by AI. My portrait looks dorky. Oh well. Bill looks like a 1980s incarnation of Dr. Who's The Master. Pity about the pinky off the Right hand… |

At least the AI didn't put cat noses & whiskers on anybody… ;-) |

I would suggest that you do not show any pictures of staff due to the current way people are using AI to hurt others. TMP staff have suffered much abuse over the years by the few "angry, angry, angry" gamers. AI gives them more chances to be nasty. It is this 3% that will cause problems. Be cautious. I remember when I suffered a hate campaign and was accused of being a nazi, homophobe , bully etc. With AI they could have had much more enjoyment. martin

Sadly, Martin is correct. The absolute evil you can do using AI is a major reason OZ recently brought in the under-16 social media ban. I don't want to describe what can be done, although I'm sure it's easy enough to find out, but the effect can be devastating on the victim. Isn't it the way? Bill has amicable intentions & some creeps can twist & distort them. I use the term 'evil' intentionally. |

AI is unpredictable. A friend of mine asked me if I could use AI to see what she would look like when she is nine months pregnant. Using a normal photo as input. The result? Pregnant AND NAKED. Quite a shock. No idea what caused the AI to do that. I know there are guardrails, and I suspect if I had asked for nudity, the AI would have said it was against the rules. But apparently AI screws up sometimes. |

Not sure if there are any guardrails Bill. Free speech. martin

Not sure if there are any guardrails Bill. Free speech. I meant with regard to what you can ask the AI to do. I would suggest that you do not show any pictures of staff due to the current way people are using AI to hurt others. We already have photos out there, if not on TMP then on social media, so we just have to have thick skins sometimes. (It helps that the worst of the trolls from the bad old days, frankly, have died. Never thought I would say that, but it's true.) In the bad old days, the wargaming trolls would grab some picture of me off social media, and add text claiming I was morbidly obese, in terrible health, engaged in crime, or mentally ill. If they didn't have one of my photos, they would use someone else's and claim it was me. Oh well. Sticks and stones. |

Best wishes to you and the team Bill. 2026 will be good for gaming I think. martin
