In a skirmish game, what weapons would you give a dismounted Soviet tanker? Other than the obvious pistol, of course.

I-net searches keep saying SMGs – but they weren't really used by Soviets yet. In some Finnish movies, they are shown with rifles of some sort (carbines I presume) – some times.

As I recall every tanker had a pistol – either the Nagant model 1895 revolver or a Tokarev (the Nagant was issued first, the Tokarev later so could be a mix) and there was one sub-machine gun per tank – initally the PPSh with the PPS later (smaller and lighter) – I suppose they could also dismount the DT machine gun although I suspect that would be little time consuming if you had to bail out quickly

Isn't the PPSh post Winter War? I thought it was introduced in '41?

A pistol, maybe a few grenades. If they had time, they would dismount their machine gun and take it out of tank.

Excellent point – the PPD-34 was used until the PPSh was introduced into service in 1941 – I was thinking Barbarossa on, not Winter War

Also good point about grenades – almost certainly would have a few lying about

As mentioned before, DT tank machine gun was designed so that it could be removed from the tank relatively easily and used dismounted. Sometimes it was even issued to regular infantry instead of the DP machine gun.

Of course it takes a bit of time to take out, and to make the best use of it you would also need to be able to take out and carry a decent number of ammo drums.
