"Falconry likely originated in Mesopotamia around 3000 BC. However, it also became increasingly popular in various regions of Europe. Even today, Frederick II's (1194–1250) book on "The Art of Falconry," heavily influenced by Arabic traditions, remains a fundamental work. Because this form of hunting was quite expensive, it was reserved for the nobility, who also held hunting rights in the forests. In the Middle Ages, it was celebrated as a social event, thus enhancing the prestige of the ruling prince. Today, only a few enthusiasts pursue this hobby. Nevertheless, on December 1, 2016, German falconry was inscribed by UNESCO on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity."
