What do you need for a good game? I have 4 12 man foot units, 2 12 man archer units, and 2 6 man mounted units per side. ( All unpainted, of course) Is this sufficient for a good game? Do you have any suggestions?

You might want to have a unit of elite foot(6 figs). Also your mounted units, are they bow? I would have at least one unit of mounted bow.

What you have is enough for a good game. As you play more you find out what troops you want.

Yes, those counts are a good start for one force as they generally deploy in groups of 6 or 12. I assume your mounted units are knights or some other heavy cavalry? I'm assuming your force is some Western European feudal levy 12th/13th C. of some sort with a backing of elite cavalry.

Fun game, hope you enjoy the painting and the game itself.

I have a decent number of the Song of Ice and Fire miniatures that are for the Game of Thrones world so, basically Medieval figures.

No, no horse archers.

Whether or not you include horse archers depends on the nationality of the forces. You could hardly field a Mongol force without horse archers for example. It sounds like you have MORE points in figures than the nominal 24 points per side recommended in the rules as a jumping off point. If you're looking at a western European retinue I would add units of mounted crossbowmen and/or mounted sergeants as well as knights.

Depends what army you are trying to represent. I suggest you look at the army lists in the 2nd Edition (pp176 – 192) and build armies of about 30pts. Dragon Rampant 2nd edition has increased the default army size to 30pts so you should do the same with LR.

Quick answer, yes.

You can play 12 point games in 30 – 60 minutes. You can also half the figure size (6 or 3 figures per unit).

You need to start gaming to figure out what army builds fit your play style. It's the only way to find out what new units you want to create next.

Have fun.
