So thinking of getting into Warlords Cruel seas. I see alot for the European front is the Pacific worth playing? Should I avoid the bigger ships? Trying to plan before buying.

I had a brief flirtation with Cruel Seas, but it never went anywhere as none of my gaming "crew" were interested in pursuing it. The coastal naval actions were a big deal 8n the European theater; English Channel; the Med; and river actions in Eastern Europe.

The Pacific had even more going on. There was quite a lot in the Solomons; along the New Guinea Coast; and in the Philippines, culminating in the beginning of Surigao Straits.

The scope you pursue will depend on what appeals to you, but if you get up to the destroyer v. Destroyer level, even at night, the reach range for the main batteries will force you out of doors in terms of play area. 5"ers reach a lot farther than 50 cals.

Personally, I wouldn't plan for bigger until you try the starter set. As noted above, tons of small boat action in the ETO.

At the behest of my son who played it a couple times at a local con, I got the starter set pretty cheap, but the price of ships beyond the starter made my jaw drop. Of course, everything is relative.

I enjoyed the rules but the scale is a problem. The models are so large relative to weapon ranges and movement that you end up with a scrum of overlapping models to fight at effective ranges. If I had it to do over I'd use those rules and 1/600 or 1/1200 models.

The Pacific can be fun with PT boats fighting Daihatsu barges close in to tropical islands.

Stay away from destroyers and larger.
