ATP 3-20.15 describes tactics, techniques and procedures for the employment of tank platoons. It also provides the framework and tactical employment principles for the M1 Abrams tank platoons. ATP 3-20.15 also provides doctrinal guidance for commanders, staff, and leaders who are responsible for planning, preparing, executing, and assessing operations of tank platoons. This Army techniques publication serves as the authoritative reference for personnel developing doctrine, material and force structure, institutional and unit training, and tank platoon standard operating procedures. To comprehend the doctrine contained in this publication, readers must understand the tactics in FM 3-90 and FM 3-96. To comprehend how the tank platoon organizes and is doctrinally employed, the reader must understand ATP 3-90.1 and ATP 3-90.5. PDF link This is 432 pages that includes details on all types of operations. Much of it is from the 2019 manual but with UAS updates. The information on UAS operations starts on page 238. Enjoy and Happy New Year. Wolfhag |

Key Drone-Related Features for the new Abrams tank: UAV Integration: Launchers for loitering munitions (e.g., Switchblade) allow tanks to scout ahead, provide overwatch, and strike targets silently, extending reach and situational awareness. AI & Autonomy: Onboard AI helps prioritize threats and manage drone operations, with systems like the PERCH (Portable Electronic Reconnaissance & Command Hub) providing live video feeds for targeting. Counter-Drone Systems: Equipped with Active Protection Systems (APS) like Trophy and specialized turrets (e.g., Bullfrog) to detect, track, and engage incoming enemy drones. Wolfhag |

So… no cages or nets for drone defense? |

According to the report, they will have them until the upgrades. The Switchblade drones are in a cannister mounted to the turret sides and are launched at a vertical angle. You need to exit the tank to reload them. They will have directional smoke grenade launchers for protection too. It will also mount a minigun for drone protection too. That would no go well with a cage around the tank. Cages can work pretty well but an FPV operator can take his time to hit a game of the drive sprockets. Once immobilized, they call in artillery. I don't think there is any ultimate protection against an FPV fiber optic drone swarm with AI as a backup for the final attack except HPM (High Power Microwave) with an EMP blast that will fry the electronics on a drone, and anything else close by if not EMP hardened.
