Surface warfighting ships only.

Only ships commissioned and operational as of 2025.

It might be easier to determine the least ugly ship today.

The U.S.S. Constitution is still a commissioned ship in the U.S. Navy, she gets my vote

Today's ships are ugly.

H.M.S. Victory is also still commissioned.

Constitution and Victory out since, whilst commissioned, they are not opperational

Constitution and Victory out since, whilst commissioned, they are not operational.

The Constitution has been towed around to see if it needs any patching. All she needs are some jolly jack tars and fine gunpowder.

In any event, I would suggest that only the OP and Dear Editor have the privilege of determining whether a proposed suggestion should be considered.

In another event, a TMP poll is based on OPINION, and its results are not binding. In my own poll on Peter O'Toole movies, my mild disagreement with someone else's suggestion did not invalidate his choice. In fact it encouraged me to watch that film.

Suggesting the Constitution is not invalid, but opened up a different perspective on the subject.

Is the New Jersey still commissioned? I stopped paying attention after WWII ships except for the occasional news story of a new ship (and it always seemed so boring looking). All I see anymore is a hull with a deck and boxes sitting on top. They may be lethal boxes, but boring looking.

Constitution is towed out into the harbour once a year to turn it around for even weathering at berth.

For actual fighting ship, French carrier Charles De Gaulle, a very shapely carrier.

"French carrier Charles De Gaulle, a very shapely carrier."

Why am I hearing a line from an old William C Anderson novel in which a character is described as "built like a French battleship" with the observation that "she keeps going around with her turrets exposed?"

The USS Constitution has indeed sailed independently many times. Here's a video from 2012, when she set sail and fired her guns: YouTube link

She's still afloat, still commissioned, still manned, still armed, and ready to take on any similar challenger today (not that there are any).

Ready to deter any Privateers!

Monsieur Piepenbrink, the Charles de Gaul most certainly does not go about with her turrets exposed!

I gave up on this thread a good while ago, after it clearly veered into unintended territory.

Try again with "ugliest", and lay down few conditions.

Type 055 Renhai class Guided Missile Destroyer China, great on paper or is it a paper tiger?

The Renhai class does have nice lines — looks like a go-fast ship and even has some turrets!

US Coast Guard Eagle training barque. No, it's not a museum but an actual commissioned ship used for training crews.

The US Coast Guard paint scheme alone is classic and striking. Here's a Legend-class cutter:
