Maybe we should be careful about "reconstructing" DNA of a plague which wiped out potentially millions of people in the ancient past… ya, know, just in the highly unlikely event that messing around with such things might cause a pandemic. Not that anything like that has happened recently… (Seriously, I'm assuming there's no risk and the thing is dead, dead, dead. But stories like this make me just a tad nervous. Don't know why…) |

Keep in mind that this form of the 'plague' was not as dangerous as it became during medieval times. |

Gratton54 right on the money. Except it always starts in China. |

"Always starts in China." Except when it doesn't. Origins of Various Epidemics and Plagues Plague Pandemics: The three major historical plague pandemics (Plague of Justinian, Black Death, and the Third Pandemic) are believed to have originated from or near Central Asia/China and spread via trade routes. Spanish Flu (1918): This devastating pandemic, which infected half a billion people, is thought to have originated in the United States, in central Kansas, before spreading globally. Ebola: The Ebola virus outbreaks have primarily occurred in Africa, first appearing in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan in 1976. HIV/AIDS: This virus is believed to have originated in the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa and spread worldwide from there. Cholera: The 19th-century cholera pandemics originated from microbes in water and soil, with the first pandemic beginning in India. Mad Cow Disease: The origin of Mad Cow disease (BSE) was in Britain. Syphilis: This disease was reportedly carried from the Americas to Europe by sailors returning with Christopher Columbus. |

Covid is alleged to have started in a laboratory that was "exploring" the genetic makeup of some bat disease. Too many conspiracy theories surrounding this, and I'm not qualified to sort them out. As always, Google "Covid origin" and go to the sites that you know in advance will agree with what you want to believe. |

The origin of the Covid pandemic has been discussed to death. I don't think the truth will ever be established but I think it just leans towards incompetence amongst the technicians of Wuhan. What is more interesting is what they were trying to achieve in their lab. It surely was a biological weapon. Nothing else makes much sense. |
