Thanks for sharing Billy. The actual battle was pretty much a non-event, with only brief action around the bridge area. 400 Parliamentarians commanded by Colonel Richard Shuttleworth scared away a 4000 Royalist force (admittedly numbering a high proportion of clubmen). Contemporary reports suggest that the shouting of the Parliament's men was enough to rout the clubmen, who in turn caused the 'regular' soldiers to panic. |
