Well, It took me almost forever but as the title says I'm back with parts 3 & 4 of my Kam Dakka AAR, a game I played refighting a smaller Second Afghan War battle from 1879 that I had never heard of until this past Spring.
A lot went on in the interim, highlights being my son's wedding (which was awesome!), me helping out with the prepping and running of our local wargaming convention, my niece's wedding on the side of the country which my wife turned turned into a NY/MA/NJ roadtrip to sightsee changing color autumnal leaves, and arguably the greatest World Series in the history of MLB (It's true I was raised in Brooklyn but I've lived in Los Angeles for a quarter century & back when he was 4 years old the same son who recently got married shamed me into going from hating the Dodgers to cheering for them).
Now that all that is in the past, I have managed to post the rest of the AAR over on my hobby blog and returned here to TMP to share it with anyone interested. I will take the liberty of including links to the Parts 1 & 2 of the saga in addition to 3 & 4, but first I will briefly summarize the action so far:
A small detachment of Indian troops led by a British officer & Native NCO have found themselves locked out of the Afghan village they were sent to help defend in the face of a pending overwelming attack by Mohmand tribesmen from across the nearby Kabul River…
At dawn the next morning they tried but failed again to convince the villagers to let them in just as the Mohmands -- THOUSANDS OF 'EM (well, actually just 1,200, but there were only 2 companies with a total of approx. 150 Indian troops present) -- appeared on the far bank of the river and began to cross by ford and raft…
Captain Creagh, in command, dispatched a courier to request support and quickly maneuvered his men towards the best defensive position available: a cemetery located close to the river as well as the pass he and his men had used to enter the valley and through which his courier was now racing back to Dakka Fort.
Creagh and his men reached the stone-walled cemetery, used headstones to block the entrances and began a long-running firefight with the approaching Mohmands…
Creagh and his Mhaiwaras were outnumbered 6:1, had a limited supply of ammunition, and faced the fight of their little lead lives -- which is where Part 3 of the AAR picks up over on my blog via this convenient LINK:

I don't want to play the role of spoiler for my own Battle Report, so I'll say about the thrill-packed conclusion is that it starts with not one but a PAIR OF RELIEF FORCES arriving on the table -- one via the nearby West end of the table and the other via the far away East end. But at the time, I really had no idea if even the close relief force would be able to save the bacon of Captain Creagh and what remained of his 2 companies of Mhaiwaras!!!
So, if you'd like to find out, here's a LINK to the 4th and final chapter of the tale, and if you do choose to click on it and/or the one above, you have my sincere thanks for investing your time and attention:
