Which movies would now be possible due to current technology?

You could make a movie out of Kafka's The Metamorphosis. Is David Cronenberg still working?

You could remake Fantastic Voyage. I think James Cameron is working on that.

Altered States remake?

Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern! I would love to see that!

Avatar is the proof that Pern could be filmed – does it still have a high profile though? Pern was huge in the 1980s, I don't even know if it is still in print – I can't recall when I last saw a new copy in a bookstore.

Tau Zero.
The Special Effects of surviving the Big Crunch and emerging in the follow-up Big Bang would be totally awesome, Dude!
Maybe my preferred Science is wrong or out of date, but that never stopped movie makers before. 😄
Make it IMAX70, of course.

The Battle off Samar.
The whole badass attitude of the American DDs and DEs would be off the charts. Fighter planes out of bullets strafing battleship bridges just to make them flinch.

Nothing to do with available technology, but The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress is my choice. I guess I stepped outside of the box, so ignore it when compiling the poll.
Politically, it could unite the Radical Left, the Radical Right, Libertarians and AI geeks.

A warning to Horrywood. Stay away from remakes oh Harryhausen! You are not worthy!!!
Should you try to, I shall become very upset! I shall complain! So, beware!

Keep your sticky fingers iff "Jason and the Argonauts" and "Sinbad!"
They are perfect!

Avatar is the proof that Pern could be filmed.

As does Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. Season 3 of HotD is allegedly having even better Hot Dragon on Dragon goodness. If the showrunners don't wander off changing the plot.

How about a Battle of the Bulge movie with CGI provided accurate tanks? Band of Brothers did a good job telling the personal story, I would like to see the story from a higher level. Historically accurate Battle of Borodino? The Russians did a good job using CGI provided mass troop formations in "Union of Salvation," imagine what could be done with better computers. Any of the great battles of history are now open for an interesting film. All that they would have to do is get the facts right. I would love to see an updated version of the 1410 Battle of Grunwald. The Polish Communist version is just not good enough for the subject. There are several historical epic type films produced by many of the Soviet block countries (Romanian War of Independence; Bulgar Empire against the Byzantines; Hussite Wars; etc.) that could be remade using CGI.

Any of the Repairman Jack books.
Stinger by Robert McCammon
Three of the Casca: The Eternal Mercenary books. Start with the original book followed by God of Death and finish with The Conquistador.

I second "The Mote in God's Eye."

PzGeneral14 Dec 2025 1:19 p.m. PST

I third "The Mote in God's Eye".

I'd love to see Red Storm Rising…but in 2-3 movies…not just one….

Dragon riders would be a good one.
