Today we tried a new period with Midgard, Pyrrhus's wars. We got to try out my new lists to see how they worked out! If you want to see how our games went, please go to this link

It sounds like you are trying to simulate the manipular legion, with its three lines of units (hastati, principes, and triarii). I don't usually see that in rules, though whether this is due to a lack of attention on my part or a failure to get down into smaller unit tactics on the part of the rule writers, I don't know. Anyway, how is that working out for you? Grelber |

Cheers Grelber! Actually, I think Midgard fails spectacularly to replicate proper Acies Triplex operation. Units are blocked onto standard sized bases. In their 'Official' lists they have a 'Replace' trait which 2/3 of the time allows a second line of Principes to replace a battered Hastati unit. I have no problem with that, but it means the Roman army has a frontage about half that of the Carthaginians! Of course in reality, Roman maniples expanded their front to fill the gaps in their lines, which is impossible with Midgard. I have done lists for Romans without the Replacement trait which allow players to deploy a line of equal length to their opponents, which gives them a fair chance of winning! |
