At the battle of Lutzen it is well known that 1 regiment belonging to Hesse Kassel fought alogside the Swedish Army. In the Osprey – Campaign Series Battle of Lutzen (nr. 068) in the order of Battle is indicated the Hessen Kassel Green Regiment, of Oberst Caspar Graf Eberstein, but actually under the command of Oberst (Colonel) Hans HEinrich von Guetherode, with 12 coys, 216 musketeers, 144 pikemen and 142 officers (dnd NCO); The same info is available from The Battle of Lutzen 1632 of Century of the Soldiers nr. 104 of André Schuerger.
ThanI went on my favourite site Kronoskaf, both in the WSS and in the SYW sections were I found that just 1 regiment was so ancient to go back to the TYW but also it added under the regiment Leibregiment zu Fuss that "Originally raised during the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) by General Geyso as the White Regiment, the regiment took part in the battles of Lützen (16 November 1632), So now I need your help to understand: at the battle of lutzen there was just 1 regiment of Hessen Kassel? was its uniform – at least theoretically – green or white? more info link |

You always have interesting posts and I enjoy your site. I have a question that goes off on a tangent, would it have been normal to have so many officers? There are almost as many officers as pikemen. |

Thanks Red Jacket for your question and for appreciating my site. 1) I added the solution to the uniform of this regiment on my site, finding an old book written in German (Gothic letters) with a very detailled history of the Hessen Kassel Army during TYW. 2) Your doubt is mine as well: too many Officers; so I consider that in that number are included: Officers, NCO, inferior NCO (corporal) drummers, and standard bearers. In fact a composition of a Swedish infantry company was: 1 captain; 1 Lieutenant; 1 Ensign, 1 Staff Sergeant, 2 Sergeants 1 Armourer, 1 Furier (i.e. sergeant with added duties), 1 company standard bearer. 6 corporals. 3 drummers (period 1621 – 1632), i.e. 18 men. out plus 72 musketeers and 54 pikemen; this means: 18 "Officers" and 126 men; this means that only the 12,5% of a company coulb be considered as "officers" (I would prefer to say "staff) the rest being troops. So the data's on the different books pay some misinterpretation of some report. |

here the solution to my query
so the Hessen Kassel Leibregiment zu Fuss had green uniforms at the battle of Lutzen (and it was a colourfull army indeed); for more details see my blog, where I translated all and gave more details link

According to "Sveriges Krig" by the Swedish general staff, there was only one regiment from Hessen and that was Landgraf Vilhelm of Hessen (Green) Life Regiment under the command of Eberstein with 12 companies of a total of 502 men |
