For the 2026 local club annual HOTT Tournament I am requiring all armies have at least one Artillery element. Any army can be used but must have Artillery. I have a number of such elements as loaners, mostly pre-2000 -- Undead, Elf, Roman, Dwarf, Orc, Pirate. but want more. The recent clever Brigade Hawaiian Gnome Pineapple Catapult got me thinking I should order more items. How about some suggestions for 28mm fantasy artillery types out there. Any genre is good, even ancients, even early gunpowder. Thanks

For a mythological army: the demon Old Age – barely mobile with the halting step of an old man, and as physically vulnerable as an old man's bones, but whose baleful glance and whispers of decrepitude can slay even a Hero. For an army from the ancient world: Archimedes' ship-burning crystal lens, hard to transport and set up and easy to shatter if you can but strike it with a sword, but able to set even far-distant targets afire. For a VSF army: land torpedoes – rocket-driven explosive devices equipped with wheels and a gyroscopic stabilizer. For a fantasy army: a captured hill giant, chained to the spot and compelled to hurl boulders at the foes of his captor, lest he suffer the whips again… |

The Goblin Automatic-Whirl-a-Gig-o-Death. This devious, even devilish device consists of a giant, horizontal wheel, fitted with chairs at the end of its 20 spokes. 20 goblins sit in each chair, each goblin carrying a large stone or metal ball, or even a pot of burning pitch. The Chief Artillerist/Torturer (he moonlights) sets a flaming torch near the side of the wheel perpendicular to the direction of the enemy. A troll stands by, who slaps the wheel to begin turning it at a very rapid rate. The goblins shriek as he continues to slap it into nothing but a blurry siren made from goblin terror. When this pitch is at its horrendous highest point, the Chief Artillerist pulls a lever that strikes the bottom of a seat as it passes over, right at the point marked by the Aiming Torch, causing the goblin to release his shell (or the seat to release the goblin— either is acceptable), said ammunition now streaking towards the enemy (or possibly anywhere else in a wide arc) with deadly effect (especially for any goblin thus released). Ironically, millennia after the pre-Ancient Goblin Wars had faded from all but the most obscure human knowledge, the Goblin Automatic-Whirl-a-Gig-o-Death remains in a lesser form as a playground ride for small children, who, on occasion, experience the precipitous dislodgement of their persons and flight across the playground, just as their ancient ancestor's foes so did.

So far so good Eumelus -- where to get a Hill Giant throwing a boulder. Parzival -- likewise, where to get a GAWaGoD |

Eumelus -- where to get a Hill Giant throwing a boulder. You don't. You buy a 54mm caveman throwing a biggish rock. |

Reaper's "Two-Headed Troll", liberally festooned with craft-store jewelry chains and guarded by tormentors of whatever race has the fellow enslaved, is what I had in mind:

Robert, great idea, but how about a suggestion on where to find " a 54mm caveman throwing a biggish rock." Eumelus, excellent suggestion. I went to Reaper and found link Will convert club to boulder. Now, I need more suggestions, for some crew served artillery, any fantasy genre. Thanks ps Oberlindes Sol LIC Parzival for the win, only if he can show me a source! |

For a more conventional artillery element, Irregular has goblin, orc, elf, dark elf, and dwarf gun crews (add medieval artillery piece from Irregular, Old Glory, etc). Here's the goblin gunners:
