No Special Edition or other nonsense. Just the original (Marcia Lucas) theatrical release. I have been wishing for decades for this. Hopefully they'll release it on 4K. This will be a cash cow for Disney. "Lucasfilm will re-release the original and newly restored version of Star Wars (1977) on February 19, 2027 for its 50th anniversary." |

It's nice on DVD, but the only way to see it is in a theater (yes, I have nostalgia for the 70's… ;-) |

Disney says many things. Let's hope this one comes to pass. |

I saw it when it first came out. When it was over, I turned around and bought another ticket and watched it again. Only movie I've ever done that with. |

I just can't give Disney any more money. |

It is one of the best in the series, but I think I might have seen it enough times already. |

I remember seeing this original one (someone shot somebody else first…) But only because the hitherto-closed town cinema had been re-opened especially for newly-released Grease (1978) and managed to stagger on for a few more weeks for Star Wars (1977). … The cinema was named after Athelstan – the first King of England – and the town was the oldest borough in England (880ce). --- Oh yeah, the cinema reeked of damp and mildew. |

Saw it when it came out. I was in Junior High School at the time. I remember it still. Not uber excited to see it in the theater again, though. I remember the original release, I think I have a DVD of the re-release version with the CGI updates they could not create in 1977. I love it, but not enough to spend money to see it again. Disney is not what it used to be. Cheers! |

I will look forward to seeing it again like I did in 1978. Its not quite the original version, but its as close as they can make it. |

I watched it when it came out with some friends. One of my friends arrived late and didn't see the first half hour. The movie was so good we all decided to stay for the next showing and watch it again so he could see the first part. |

I saw it the summer I was 12, and I saw it 12 times. First movie I or anyone I knew had done that. The lines were down the block. Obviously, I've been a fan ever since. My attitude on Disney is to reward them when they do something right, and withhold my money when they do something wrong. It's called "the free market," and it works. Hey, they're a corporation. They exist to make money. The more things they get money for doing/releasing the more they'll do and release those things. It's called "the free market," and it works. |

doubleones, a good point and a perfectly valid approach. But possibly if Disney made money on good movies and lost money on bad movies, they might make more good movies? My training on this was in behavioral psych, and I'm not sure Disney Corp is as clever as a Norwegian white rat, but it might be worth a try. |
