There are a lot of "might haves" and "maybes" in that article, but it, err, rings true. Certainly there's a link to Catesby, and a gold ring engraved in this manner would be a thing of significance and not a petty piece of frippery. Certainly the wearer (or the gifter at least) had some manner of wealth and prominence. One can imagine it being lost during a frantic flight, or as evidence disposal in an act of self-preservation (so much for the motto), or in a struggle upon capture… (hmmm… nice little skirmish scenario). In any case, a fun find with a great history.
